I have a single 200gb hd thats not partitioned and about 80% free space-tried
to load windows64, but it wants a partitioned space-I'm new to computing but
still tried to figure it out--made a "BOOTIT SHAREWARE" disc and it installed
itself into a partition, but I cant figure out how to make the partion for
64--can somebody help me? is there an easier shareware?

If you can buy a 64bit machine I didn't see a problem for you to buy a
Partition Magic.

BootIT NG is just fine for creating partitions. You need to read the
manual on line and create a boot floppy. However, BootIT NG is not as
user-friendly as Partition Magic so you might be more comfortable with
that.

That said, do you have a 64-bit processor? Right now, only AMD is making
them.

Sorry for the double-post, I hit "send" before I finished my thought.
What chanmmn meant I'm sure was that Intel does have the Itanium
processor for 64-bit processing, but if you had one of those you would
most certainly know it as they are very expensive and not aimed at home
users. I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but if you don't have
64-bit hardware, a 64-bit operating system (and the Windows one is not
finalized; I believe it is still beta) isn't going to do you any good.

of course, malke, I know what I have in my computer-I guess saying I'm new to
computing implies I know nothing, but I'm learning quickly-amd64 3200-64 is
still beta, so I'm still not exactly sure I want to install it--but I was
planning on reinstalling my os for various reasons, so I thought now would be
a good time to try it--if I didnt like it I could just go ahead with xp
reinstall--

Yes, when you said you were new to computing and didn't know how to
partition, I was checking to make sure you knew you had to have a
64-bit processor. I hope you know that I wasn't trying to hurt your
feelings.

So, use PM or BootIT NG and make a partition for your test os. Keep in
mind that you will need 64-bit drivers for all your hardware, and the
hardware mftr.'s may or may not have written any yet. But since you're
just playing, it doesn't matter that much. If something doesn't work,
oh well.

Have fun,

thanx malke-u made me just change my mind-I didnt know that about the
drivers-I just put in a dvd burner and all in wonder, so I'm not even going
to mess with 64 right now--
