Partitioning with Vista

I partitioned my new computer 400 gig HD using Vista. It has put 180 gigs
in C:, which I can't shrink further. It has 162 gigs available and I would
prefer to reduce that to 90 gigs and use 90 gigs elsewhere. I am new to
Vista and I would appreciate info on how this might be done.

What do you mean by "elsewhere"?

So you're saying that you've tried the "Shrink Partition" option in Disk
Management and it will not allow you to shrink this partition any further?
This may be because some unmovable system files may be at the end of this
partition and since they can't be moved, the partition can't shrink any
further.
Since Vista no longer has a Disk View where you can see how the files are
distributed on a partition, you can get
DiskView
from SysInternals
and use this to see if this is the case here.

'Elsewhere' would/could be two more partitions or add the 90 to the other
partitions. No specific plans for it until I can get it.

Thanks for the suggestions! HP has made a D drive to hold its 'restore'
files, so that isn't the cause. I really would like to take a look, and
I'll give your suggestion a try.

I had the same situation. I have a 160 gig hard drive with about 80 left
and when i go to shrink C: it says i can only shirk 7 gigs. I
downloaded PerfectDisk2008 free trial to see where my system files were
and sure enough, they were right there toward the end of the HDD. Now
that i know that that those files are there, how do i move them?
I am not sure if trial version is able to do offline defrag,
but if it is, do it. It will move and defragment all these system files.
Then you will be able to shring a partition.
