Partitioning hard disk

Have a HP Pavilion a1730n with a 320 MB hard disk and Home Premium. Is
there any partitioning software available yet that is compatible with Vista
and this size hard disk? I have large amounts of data that will be on the
hard disk and don't like the clutter on the same partition as the programs.

You may be able to do it from within Vista.

Sometimes on the system partition Vista won't shrink it by much. If that
happens try defragging the drive. Once you have shrunk the partition use the
Disk management console to create another partition in the unallocated
space.

Thank you for the response -- it was new to me. I did some reading on it;
sounds good. But when I tried it and tried to execute "Disk Management" it
seemed to hang for a long time with the message about seeking/loading
"Virtual Disk Service." I left it for about 6-8 minutes and it never did
execute or give an error messge. Tried this a number of times, disabling
some of my security software, same result. I read some comments of other
users and none reported this problem. Do you have any advice?

I did some more searching and reading. Some one said they had to right-click
on Computor Management and "Run as Administrator" and then all went well. I
tried that and it was so with me as well. The "shrinking" worked.

I appreciate your willingness to help and the time you freely offered.
Typical of the newsgroup MVPs!

You're welcome.

Do you have UAC turned off? You normally shouldn't have to use Run as
administrator. Normally you get a UAC prompt then it runs.

Apparently my last post yesterday didn't arrive -- This was essentially what
I posted:
