Most program installers have an option to change the installation location
to another drive that C. Even so, some files may still be installed by
default on the C drive.
On some installations you need to do a customized installation to have the
option to change the program installation location.
I've installed windows XP and partitioned the hard drive into two sections. C and D. XP is up and running with the hard drive divided into two sections. C and D. Software from the cd rom drive (E) loads automatically onto the C section. The D section is empty with 20 gigabbytes of free space. I'd like to load software onto the D section but I don't know how to do it. I'd like to install a game program on the D section. How do I install software on the D section of the hard drive? Right now software is automatically installed on the C drive.

Some software will only install on C:. MOST programs have an option in the
install screen that gives you the option to change the Install folder. When
you see that query, just point it to a folder on D: (e.g.,
D:\Programs\NewAppFolder).
