Partition Magic Replacement?

J

jimbo

Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement for Partition
Magic 8.0? Symantec does not seem to moving PM 8.0 forward. Maybe
another company has something similar and is keeping up to date?

Thanks for any suggestions, jimbo

I purchased my copy of PM 8 when it was still owned by PowerQuest. In
what way or ways do you feel it has fallen behind the competition?
Specifics, please.

For partition work try BootItNG from http://www.bootitng.com

Good luck

Partition Magic 8.0 from Powerquest is one of the best programs I have
ever owned. I like to mess with Linux distros and I usually have
several installed along with WinXP. I use PM 8.0 to add, delete, move,
resize, etc. partitions for the various Linux distros. PM 8.0 doesn't
seem to recognize some of the latest Linux file types. It shows the
partition as being 100% used with no free space and giving an error
when I attempt to browse the partition.

I don't think Symantec has done a single thing to update PM 8.0 since
they bought it from PowerQuest.

Thanks for the thoughts, jimbo

Seeing as how the NTFS file system hasn't changed in about 5 years, there is
no reason to drastically upgrade the program. It does all it has to do the
way it is, for any current windows file system.

Why don't you ask around in the hundreds of Linux groups. It is, after all,
Linux you are having a problem with - not Windows.

Thanks for that bit of wisdom? Partition Magic is installed in WinXP.
It is a Windows program. It has worked just fine until recently with a
recent Linux file system type. Why would you think it is a Linux problem?

Run it from the DOS boot floppies you can create from within the Windows
version of Partition Magic. If you still have problems it won't be a
Windows problem any longer. Then you can go to your Linux groups and ask
around there.
