Partition deleteion and boot problem

Ok so i had windows xp on C: for quite a long time. Than i created a new 30gb
partition from free space for vista. In vista the partition where i had win
xp was recognized as D: ...Than my win xp lost boot ability(was playing with
some progs) so i copied files from that partiotion to my other HD and just
deleted everything else. But when i tried to format this partition i lost the
ability to get to boot loader. I want to give this free space to my vista
partition but when i try to delete this partition i lose the boot. So what
can i do. I had to install win vista starter to this former - xp partition
just to get the boot loader so i can boot to old vista. Any clue how to move
bootloader to my current partition and resize it with free space??

Make the Vista partition the active partition and then run the Vista install
disk and repair the startup process. This will only work if you have
installed Vista on a primary partition. Otherwise you will have to make a
small boot partition. You can try to use the Vista disk management to
resize the partition. Some have had success others not. Some have
recommended Ranish as a free alternative. Never used personally.
