hi,

you might want to update the virus definition files of your anti-virus
software then scan your whole system.

if it comes clean, you can then try spybot search and destroy where it tries
to locate and get rid of parasites and other malwares. this is available at
http://security.kolla.de/

also, if you have not done so, activate your windows firewall (internet
connection firewall for the pre sp2 systems) if you are not using a third
party firewall.

hope this helps.

Hi,

That message is not from Windows but rather some software that is installed
on your system. Start/run msconfig, look at the startup tab to see what is
loading.

I suspect it's a 'bogus' message generated by a remote computer using the
Messenger Service. If it were genuine, you would get the message all the
time, not just when you go online, that's the clue. You need to disable the
messaging service which is turned on by default but is not required by
non-corporate Windows users.
To disable, follow these steps:

1. Start - Run - now type SERVICES.MSC and press ENTER

2. Scroll down the list of services till you get to MESSENGER

3. Highlight it, right-click and select 'Properties'

4. Click the 'STOP' button.

5. Now where it says 'Startup Type: Automatic, change this to 'Disabled'.

6. Click 'OK' and those Messenger pop-ups shouldn't bother you any more.
