paragraph numbering

When I create a new Word document that contains numbered paragraphs and then
print the document. Most of the time, the numbers change to zeros (0)
instead of the 1,2,3,4. Once I resent the numbering it seems to work fine.

Does anyone have an idea what is happening?

Two possible answers and probably they both are occuring.

1. The style/styles on normal.dot is set to 0 not 1.

2. Tools>Options>Print> check box for Update Fields is check, so even is you
change the numbering to start at 1, if style is 0, then when you print it
will revert back.

I am not sure waht you mean by the style/styles being set to 0 and not 1.
Can you give me further clarification on this point.

Also did you think the Update Fields box should be checked or not.
