I'm not sure which thread is even appropriate for this subject. I use
windows XP. I have received a PAN file. The file extension is GER. I cant
open the file. What is a PAN file and what program do I need to open it?
Thanks!

If the extension is "ger," what makes it a PAN file? How do you know it's a
PAN file?

I've never heard of either PAN or GER, but here's what www.filext.com (a
very good resource for questions of this type, by the way) has to say about
..ger: http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=ger

Thanks for the quick reply. I dont know what makes it a PAN file. A
newsletter website that I need to down load addresses into says I can attach
a PAN file instead of excel. When I asked the Property Management company if
they had the info in a PAN file, they said yes and sent me a file with
extension ger. The person sending it to me apparently doesnt know what it is
either - only that they have it. I'll see if website you refer to can give
me any guidance

Ken answered your original question. As to the first sentence of your post
no thread would be appropriate. This is a newsgroup. You should not post a
new message onto another thread, called hijacking. Only post to another
existing thread if you are replying to that thread with info to the OP about
their problem. For your issue create a new message just as you did. So all
is well.
