paging file

I used drive image to copy my disk to another larger disk.
But now windows 2000 starts to boot but hangs during start
up and gives msg no paging file or paging file to small. It
gives info on how to setup paging file, I know how to setup
paging file problem is it doesn't complete starting up so I
can go in and create paging file. I searched in
knowledgebase and all I can find assumes you can get into
windows to make changes. It hangs and after what seems like
a long time it still doesn't finish loading windows so I
can create the paging file. I'm upgradinig to larger HDD
and I still have the smaller one (or I wouldn't be here now
to get help). I know there has got to be a way to fix
this. I tried a repair iinstallation but it didn't work
either....any suggestions? Thanx a whole lot in advance

-- The disk is starting to boot, while it's going through
the loading personal settings during startup I get the no
paging file msg. I want to know how I can get into windows
to create the paging file. So far none of the links of
fixes in knowledge base addresses this. It seems that in
all instances they assume you can still get into windows.
I've tried the fixmbr and still get no paging file msg
during startup and system hangs. It does not continue to
boot into windows. I know someone else has had to have had
this problem at some time. Still searching for answers

The paging file cannot be created at boot because the location it wants to create it to (the partition the operating system is installed on) does not have permissions set correctly. That's the trouble. How to set the permissions on that partition for the operating system that doesn't boot is well a problem and I do not know the solution.

You might try setting the drive permissions from a parallel install of the
operating system.

Ok. I've got it fixed. I found farther back in this forum
about usiing win98 boot disk and doing fdisk /mbr. I tried
it and lo and behold it worked. I'm in win2k on new hdd.
Thanks for all your input. That fix should be placed in
knowledge base.
