Paging file problem

I have problems with paging file. I go to
System/Advanced/Settings (performance settings - /advanced
and then it says (when i click on Advanced):
"Windows created a temporary paging file in your computer
bacause of a problem that occured with your paging file
configuration when you started your computer. The total
paging file size for all disk drives may be somewhat
larger than you specified."
Then I see: Total paging file for all drives: 0 MB
Minimum allowed: 2 MB
Recommended: 382 MB
Currently allocated: 0 MB
Then I try to adjust it - (it simply shows numbers in the
window on the top when I put custom size - for ex. 382-764
(or any other)).
Then it says I must restart my pc to apply changes and I
restart it...
When I want to check it again to see if it worked - I get
the same error when i go to advanced and the numbers are
pretty same:
Minimum allowed: 2 MB
Recommended: 382 MB
Currently allocated: 0 MB
On Task Menager/Performance under Kernel memory I see:
Total paged: 25000 (more less)
Paged: 22000 (more less)
Non paged: 3000 (more less)
In addition, I sometimes get messeges in windows - Virtul
memory low! - and it says again that I should try
increasing my paging file.

P.S. On my friend's PC (windows xp also) he has Currently
allocated (paging file): around 700 MB (as it should
normally be)(he has 512 MB RAM)

I tried everything and it didn't work. Please help me!
