Help!

I attempted to install a second HDD in a few year old
1.8 GHz DELL w/500 MB RAM computer which was of course
working perfectly fine before I touched it. Running
W2K Professional, very stable, totally happy with it.
There was an extra connector on the HDD ribbon cable, so
so no changes appeared necessary. I bot a new WDC 80 GB
HDD, jumpered it for "slave", plugged it in, and using the
Western Digital software, I began partitioning &
formatting and all seemed cool.

On next reboot, however, after entering my admin password,
I got a "Limited Virtual Memory" error message; eg, "Your
computer has no paging file or the paging file is too
small. [From your desktop] Right click 'My Computer',
clink 'Properties', click 'advanced' 'performance
options' 'change' and increase....

Great. >>EXCEPT<<, the computer cannot boot to the
desktop. It ALWAYS, even in SAFE mode returns to
the "enter admin password" screen and just seems like it
doesn't accept the password.

Ideas?

Thanks so much to anyone who can provide any insight!!

i just had that problem and after trying different things
i used my partition manager dos diskette to run fix mbr
and after a reboot the crazy thing came right up. good
luck.

by the way, what kind of hard drive is the c drive. some
drives (i think western digital) need to have an
additional jumper on it if a slave is added to the cable.

In addition to the other suggestions, I'd check to make sure the other
hard drive is jumpered for Master (or, where applicable, Master With
Slave). Many manufacturers use Cable Select, and mixing and matching
CS with master/slave selections is a Bad Idea.
