Can the pagefile.sys be changed. It is occupying 2gb of space. I do have
2gb ram, however. If it can be changed, then I would like to consider what
happens when I change it....that is, whether it slows things down
appreciably. Thanks.

Can its *size* be changed? Yes.

Right-click My Computer and choose Properties. On the Advanced
tab, under Performance, click Settings. On the Advanced tab,
under Virtual Memory, click Change.

Unless you are an unusual user, running very memory-hungry
applications, the combination of 2GB of RAM and 2GB of page file
is *far* more than you need. You can almost certainly lower the
initial size to something around 200MB with no impact on
performance at all.

Try it. If you don't like the results, it's easy enough to change
it back or try another setting.
