Pagefile.sys missing & not re-creating

Michael

Hi;
Upon startup, I get the message pagefile missing or too
small. The file pagefile.sys(hidden) is not in the root
directory as it should be. Viewing another xp machine, it
does exist. I have gone into the system settings under
control panel and tried resetting the custom max. & min.
values for the page file but when I re-boot, the file is
still not being created and I get the message again. XP
says it makes a temporary page file but I'd rather not
have the message and have the pagefile.sys back. I have
gone into system recovery as well but am not quite sure
what to do here. Any Ideas would be appreciated.

TIA
Mike

Open Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and look for an entry for
the Intel Application Accelerator. If it is listed then select it and
click on Add/Remove to uninstall it. Reboot the computer and your
problem should be resolved.

And if the Intel Application Accelerator was installed then you should
go to www.intel.com and download the latest version of the Intel
Application Accelerator and install it.

If that does not apply or if it does not fix the problem then see MVP
Alex Nichol's article on Virtual Memory in XP at
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm especially the section dealing with
problems.

Good luck

Make sure you have have Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files,
and *not* Hide Protected mode ones to ensure you can see it. And if you
do a change of size, make sure you hit Set before going on. Also if you
put a page file on another drive, make sure you retain a baby one on C -
which will probably not come into actual existence but is needed to keep
things happy.

Beyond that, go to www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm and see if anything in
the Problems section is relevant. This sounds like the one with Intel
Application accelerator, though I have also heard that it can arise
after installing NAV 2004.
