I have 1 gig of Ram and Windows set the paging file to 1536 min and
3072 max, the "custom" box is checked. When I check the box to let windows
manage it I reboot and it shows no paging file at all. Does windows think
that I don't need one or what? Please help, thanks.

Hi,

Is folder options/view tab set to see hidden and system files? Have you
checked for the existance of pagefile.sys to see if it is physically on the
drive where it is set to? Is there sufficient space on the designated
location to create a pagefile of the minimum size you specified? Even if
unneeded, WinXP will create a pagefile unless you disable it completely.

that file will be far more than you need. Make sure it is on drive C: -
or if not that you retain at least a notional one on C: (say init 2 max
50) and I would set the custom initial size for the one to use as 100MB
with a Max of maybe 1000 or even 2000 (as long as you have disk space
around that is not going to do any harm). Be sure to click the Set
button after making a change on a drive before going on to any further
action
