It's not a perfect solution but it's the only one I have for this.
Personally, I'm using a 19" LCD flat panel that I run at its rated
resolution of 1280x1024. I don't use the ignore options though at one time
with a different monitor I did.
You aren't missing anything on those pages that don't fill the screen. The
reason why some things get weird is because you are actually trying to use
your system to overcome something that was designed into various WebPages
and that, by necessity will sometimes do weird things. You have to decide
what works best for you. For my own point of view, I leave the WebPages to
the designers and if it doesn't fill the screen, as long as I can see the
whole webpage that's all that I'm interested in.
Also, remember, designers are not simply designing with IE in mind, there's
also Netscape, Opera, Mozilla and others. They try to do the best common
design. You are attempting to overcome a flaw that is largely related to
your own system's resolution. Also note, when you change your own screen
resolution, you may also need to change font size since, you may be using a
larger font size at the higher resolution than you would need to use or want
to use at the lower resolution.
There's no perfect solution for this.
