I have searched extensively on this topic and have tried several
solutions, none of which have worked. I would appreciate whatever
help anyone can offer.

I am using Microsoft Word 2007. In my dissertation document, I have
three sections which I have created using section breaks. I would
like for page numbers to appear in only one section of my document. I
insert page numbers utilitzing the Insert-Page Number button on the
ribbon, and I am able to format it such that it begins with page one
within my desired section. However, Word places page numbers in the
other sections as well, sections in which I am not allowed to have
page numbers appear. Whenever I delete the page numbers from the
other sections, Word removes page numbers from my entire document.

How can I have page numbers appear in only one section of a multi-
section Word document?

Thank you very much for any help you can offer.

Although many things are found in different places in Word 2007, the
underlying principles remain the same. The principle here is that, if you
want headers/footers in one section to be different from those in another
(aside from cases where a StyleRef field will serve), you need to unlink
those headers/footers. For more on that, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm. You might also find
