page number question

Enable the "Different odd and even" option in File | Page Setup,
Layout tab. If the document has only one page (or two, if "Different
first page" has also been enabled in Page Setup), temporarily add page
breaks so that you can see all types of headers and footers.

If the document already has page numbers, then do the following:
Activate the header/footer area by clicking Header and Footer on the
View menu. Use the Show Previous/Show Next buttons to move between odd
and even headers (footers). Delete the page number for odd pages (or
for even pages, whichever you prefer). Note that if you inserted page
numbers via Insert | Page Numbers, make sure to delete the entire page
number frame.

If there currently are no page numbers in the document: Activate the
header/footer area as described above. Via the Header/Footer toolbar,
insert the page number where you want it. Click the Close button when
you are done.

Use different odd and even layout. Put the page number only in odd (or even)
header or footer.

If the page numbering is still supposed to be sequential (i.e. the blank
pages are uncounted) then you will need to use a formula for the page field.
If you are numbering right hand (odd) pages then you would use {= ({PAGE} +
1) /2 } The {} brackets are field delimiters. The easiest way of entering
this is to insert the page field from the header and footer toolbar as
usual, type the rest of the formula around it, select the whole thing and
press Ctrl F9 to insert the outer delimiters.

Note that page numbers generated this way won't be picked up in TOCs and
cross references - those will still refer to the "real" page number (value
of {PAGE} on that page).
