Page N of M problem

I created a footer to report Page N of M. I used the appropriate buttons on
the footer toolbar. In print preview, the numbering is correct. Thus, the
page four footer of a seven page document shows "Page 4 of 7". But when I
print, the page four footer appears as "Page 4 of 4", Page 5 as "Page 5 of
5" etc..

Why?
