I have a laptop running XP during startup it generates a
Page fault and then restarts.

This happens in all startup modes (safe, command....)

The blue screen disappears so fast I can not read the
exact error.

TIA for any help

At what point in the boot up process does it fail? What make of laptop,
what version and SP level of windows? Is it a standalone or set up to
join a network?

You can try booting with the windows installation CD, going into
recovery console, by choosing the first repair option and running chkdsk /r.
