Page cannot be displayed

i have ie6 and xp1 build 2600 i think and everytime i go online with my
broadband connection, the bytes recieved and sent keeps going up and up and
it taked 10 mins to load yahoo.com(home page) and then i try to go on another
website eg hotmail.com it taked a further 10 mins to load and then it goes
"page cannot be displayed, etc dns error"
plzzz can someone help
