Page cannot be displayed

I have the same symptoms as described by someone below. Is this a virus?
What is the solution?

I downloaded Version 6 SP1 again and that provided no solution for the
problem.

Ok, I increased the security level for the Internet and specified for
prompting before allowing scripting and cookies and the Page Cannot Be
Displayed problem went away.

During this process I restarted IE6 and instead of my home page I got a page
purporting to be the Microsoft Windows Update page tell me to ALLOW a
certain web site in order to get automatic updates. BUT, the page was not
standard Microsoft and the web site did not appear to be the correct one for
that.
