page cannot be displayed

After visiting several websites, it seems like after 8-12
pages are loaded, the next one tells me that the page can
not be displayed and to DETECT WEB SETTING. I Have to
close everything down and reboot. Then I can go back to
the internet the process starts all over again. I am using
ME, 512ram, 2 hard drives(1-160g partitioned into C: and
E:), IE6 with all updates and service packs installed,
using a DSL for connect. Help

I Have to close everything down and reboot.

Try checking your Internet connection first.
I'm not familiar with your OS but I imagine that there would
be a troubleshooter available in your Windows Help.
(E.g. perhaps Ctrl-Esc,H then search with: connect* AND troubleshoot*
-- works for XP and I think I could do it on NT4)

If you use a Dial-up connection first verify that it hasn't somehow
been disconnected.

If you still have a connection check if your E-mail server still works
(or any other non-IE internet applications you may have.)
(If you use OE press Ctrl-m to do a Send and Receive
or just try to ping -n 1 your mail servers.)

If other internet applications aren't working the problem is more general
than just a problem with IE.

Run winipcfg to find out the addresses of your DNS
and your assigned IP address; then open a command window
and try to ping -n 1 each of them.

If the modem appears to be connected but there is no response
from the Internet report the outage(s) to your ISP. Usually the
simplest temporary fix in that case is to hangup and try to reconnect.

If you need more help please report your observations in detail.
Remember your words have to substitute for what our eyes might
notice. Also, if most of your problem seems to be related to your
connectivity in general you may get better help from a newsgroup
which specializes in networking for your OS.

Good luck
