Packard bell, Dead

My fathers Packard bell will not start up, power goes to the computer but then all it does is bleep, he says he smelt burning just after he switched it on, Has it gone to kentucky and fried?
Plus if it has fried is it worth reparing (kinda old) or is a new computer on the cards? Thanks

Can you open up the machine and find what BIOS is installed?

This can determine what we need to look for in the way of errors

Each BIOS manufacturer has specific beep codes you see

What kind of beep is it?

ie

1 long 2 short

continuous short beeps

Find this out for us please
