p4p800 USB conflicts with AGP under Win98

Hi,

I have a P4P800 running w2k and w98. Seems my AGP card and all USB ports are
conflicting; the share the same IRQ so USB doesn't work. My vidcard also
suffers from the conflict; it's terribley SLOW!!!!!
Under W2k IRQ's are also shared but no problem there. Better resources
management I guess.\

Is there a way I can give both AGP and USB a single different IRQ? No luck
in the devicemanager because I cannot change IRQ's manually there.

Thanks,

Sjaak

Hi Sjaak

The P4P800 motherboard is running with ACPI and APIC. When this
happens Windows will not let you make modifications to the Hardware
Abstraction Layer. This is mentioned in the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 315278 -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315278&Product=winxp

This is for XP but there are links to 2000. In the link article about
IRQ sharing, it refers to win2k and win98.

It would appear that your conclusion that Win98 does not have good
resource management is correct.

I run 98 on the P4Pe and there is one usb controller on IRQ 5 where the
AGP card is also located. There is no problem here. The other 3
controllers are on three other shared IRQs. If all controllers are on the
same IRQ that is a problem but otherwise , that's the way its meant to
be--if so, look elsewhere for the solution.

Thank you both,

Seems the P4P800 is NOT a great Windows 98 platform!
I Guess ASUS is also moving on.
