P4P800 Deluxe & USB 2.0

Peter Huish

I have a P4P800 Deluxe m/b. I am using Windows Xp sp1. When I
connected a USB 2.0 disk drive to the system I get a message telling me
that high speed USB devices are not supported.

According to the user's manual, I need to install the USB 2.0 drivers
from the CD. When I try to do that I get told that with sp1 you do not
need to install the driver.

How do I get USB 2 to work?

thanks,

pete

Well, although the OS has the support for usb 2.0, you have to double check
that its enabled in the BIOS as well.

Mine are rather obstusely named 'HiSpeed' and 'FullSpeed' in my bios, rather
than showing just the usb ver 1.1/2.0

BIOS - Under Advanced | USB Configuration | USB 2.0 Controller Mode
[HiSpeed]

HiSpeed enables USB transfer rate up to 480Mbps.

Full Speed enables USB transfer rate up to 12Mbps.

If applicable, try the USB ports affixed to the motherboard. Some case
manufacturers were unable to support USB 2.0 through their front panel ports
(Antec & Chieftec, I am personally aware of).
