P4P800-D Northbridge with different heat sink:

Could someone let me know what I got here. I returned a P4P800-D to
NewEgg due to constant rebooting problems. Turned out to be the CPU (2.4c)
was bad and only did this when it 32bit mode. Anyway the mb they sent me as
a replacement had a black heat sink on the Northbridge that says "Asus" and
the heatsink runs parallel to the Cpu heatsink. My old board had a silver
heatsink and its corner pointed towards the Cpu heatsink (same as the
picture on Asus website). I have not been able to find another picture on
the web of the same thing I got. Is it older or a newer version?
TIA,
Zap

Check the revision # between the PCI slots. My rev 2.03 board has the black
heatsink you speak of so I believe it's newer. Check the rev# to be
sure...Trapper

Newer. The diagonal-heatsink ones were the very earliest revision. I'm
surprised you got one, I had thought that only review sites got that
version.

Newer, but I replaced it with a Thermaltake Tiger anyhow.

Checked my board and it's Revision 2.00. Just wanted to make sure that
NewEgg wasn't trying to pull something over on me after what I've read in
these groups and not being able to find a picture like the one I had.
Recently had my machine stop at the bios screen and after hitting Del to
enter setup it said overclocking failed F1 etc. Funny thing is, I'm not
overclocking yet. Anyone else experience this or know why?
