Heat sink

Got all the parts to build a new computer, question is on the P4 2.8
processor heat sink there is a soft pad where it contacts the cpu should
this be removed and artic silver used? Thanks

If it is a Prescott then the general opinion is Yes - it *is* important to
consider this.

Go to the arctic silver web site and carefully read the instructions for
Your CPU - they differ by CPU.

If you are not 100% sure about thoing this then you may be better off using
the Intel supplied stuff - they warrantee it and the stock heatsink is
adequate (in a suitable case).

Make sure you keep an eye on CPU temps after you do this as it is easy to
get the process wrong.

Not necessarily, it's also thermal past. I also used it with my 3.0.
Just be sure to remove the foil before you install the cooler
Only when you remove the cooler afterworths you will have to
remove old thermal past and apply new. Arctic Silver 5 is
probably one of the best to use in that case.
