P4C800 sux...

I've had these two computers built and stable for two months...

The last few days my PC just locks (P4C800-E Dlx v2)... no warning, doing
whatever (games, email, etc.) Whole thing is locked solid.

Now this morning my wifes PC (P4C800 Dlx v2) decided to forget most of its
CMOS settings... turns the RAID back on, disables start from spacebar, all
the CPU/Memory settings go back to defaults... About the only thing that
didn't change was the clock.

....and no, these boxes aren't built with cheap parts. My ram is DDR533 from
OCZ, wife has Kingston HyperX DDR433, for example. No hardware/software
changes at all in the last few weeks.

Will ASUS ever get it right?

Sounds to me like someone came in a swapped your computers for two
identical ones with stability problems. :)

: )

That's sure what it seems like... These machines went together so easy and
have been VERY stable up until now. I was burned before by ASUS years ago,
so it won't take much to sour me again.

I did pull mine apart to check the "solder bridge" issue, but it was
definately cleaned up before shipping... Now I don't know what to check
next. I'm hoping that pulling it apart and rebuilding it is all that it
needs.

....as for the wifes machine, I've heard of mainboards just losing settings
(ECS boards I think), but nothing for the ASUS stuff. Need to do more
digging.

Y'know, indoor plumbing has been around for years. You might want to stop
using that bucket someday.

You're blaming Asus and you don't even have a clue as to what your problem
is? Both systems could be using the same under powered POS power supply
units for all we know. Are there any other common elements besides yourself
and the Asus boards? Maybe you should detail both systems here before
"flailing" at Asus.

Seen this problem on ASUS boards before , Soon as you unplug the power,
everything in BIOS re-sets except time which oddly enough is the CMOS
retention battery failing, just replace it with a fresh one, return the BIOS
settings to proper and everything should be SWEET!
Cheers.

Thanks!

I'll leave both PC's off of power for a while tonight and see what happens.

Haven't had any issues since I pulled it apart and put it back together...
Maybe a bit of oxide someplace?

Tried disconnecting from the power for a night... CMOS was intact the next
day, so it's not a matter of losing power that reset the BIOS settings.

Oh well... everything is steady again.
