P4C800 low FSB speed

Hi,

I have installed an intel P4C 2.4 Ghz With HT on an asus P4C800 deluxe
mobo and I was surprised to see that the speed reported by several softwares
(cpuz, sandra, memtest, etc...) was 2399MHz for CPU and 199.9 for FSB. Bios
is 1014 and all settings are on default (no oc). I am estonished because it
is my sixth asus mobo and what I have observed in the past is that asus was
always overclocking a little bit its products when running in the normal
(default) mode. So I was wondering if someone else has observed the same
behavior on P4C800DLX.

Thanks

Sid

Overclocking would result in overclocking the memory also (and the PCI/AGP).
You will have to make other settings in the BIOS to avoid overclocking
PCI/AGP.
May be that is why since the board is advertised to work with DDR400.
Just a thought.

Anyway, I have a P4P800 deluxe and the default setting is 200.

Would you mind naming the boards that you have had that experience with?
Thanks.

Hi,

I have used these ones:

1- P55T2P4 (pentium)
2- TX97-E
3- P3B-F (P3)
4- P4T-E (P4)
5- P4B533-VM (microATX P4)
6- P4C800 Deluxe (4x256MB=1GB PC3200 DDR , 2.5-3-2-7 timings) and P4C 2.4GHz
CPU

I repeat my question: why , when using default (or normal settings) win
P4C800DLX, I have 199.9 MHz for FSB and consequently 2399MHz for CPU instead
of 200MHz and 2400MHz exactly.

Regards

Sid

I completely misunderstood your original question.
It is a good question.

A point to keep in mind is that the utilities you have mentioned are
all software. The only point of frequency reference a software
has is the CPU frequency itself unless it uses a card that has a crystal
on it (not the case with CPU-Z or Si-Sandra).
It's like using a ruler to measure the length of the ruler itself!
So, I wonder how those utilities make the frequency measurement.

Bios

200 FSB is "Quad Pumped" (QDR) and hence 800 FSB on your CPU and 400 (DDR)
on your RAM.
