P4C800-E DLX 1018 IDE problem

Andre

Hi,

I use my P4C800-E Deluxe since one year and it's seems to be a very stable
motherboard.

I use Win XP Pro with a P4 3.2c and 1 GB DDR 400
1 x Maxtor 200 GB SATA HDD,
1 x Plextor DVD writer 708A as master on secondary IDE port,
1 x Plextor DVD player 116A as slave on the secondary IDE port too.
1 x ATI AIW Radeon 9700 Pro...
1 x SB Audigy 2

No problem until a few days ago.

But since some days, it's impossible to copy the files from a CD or a DVD to
the hard disk by using my DVD player connected as slave on the secondary IDE
port. Of course, I replaced this player by a new one and it's the same
problem.
I tried also with other CD and DVD media with no better end.
Every task as DVDshrink, Smartripper or simply a copy/paste from a CD/DVD
placed in the DVD player give me the same error message regarding an "I/O
peripheral error"

But, if I place the same CD or DVD in the DVD writer (master on the same IDE
port) it is ok.
Very slow but OK. I can copy files to the HDD as always.

I replaced my complete OS and programs by ghosting a previous version
(before SP2) and the problem remains.

Where's the shit ?
Can someone help me ?

Thanks

Andre

Andre--are there any yellow bangs in Device Manager for your optical drives?
Silly question, but have you tried a new IDE cable and the cable is secure
in both drives and in the motherboard header? Have you tried deleting and
reloading the drivers for the optical drives?

Obviously the drive is okay, the OS is okay,
though I would've never suspected that anyway,
the other suspect is the cable.
