I'm putting together a video editing system with the P4C800-E Deluxe, 1GB
Mushkin PC3500 memory and a P4 2.6GHz/800 (ultimately like to OC). I'll be
running XPpro btw.

I've got two Maxtor ATA133 200GB drives, two WD SATA 36GB 10K drives,
CDRW/DVD and CDRW. The CDRWs are no brainers, they'll go on the Secondary
IDE as master and slave.

But the combinations of configuring the HDs are numerous and I'd like to get
some suggestions and feedback from others who may have done it. What should
I go with? Is the Intel Raid better than the Promise Raid? Would putting
both on the Promise controller be too much for it? Thanks for your help.

SATA options:
a) non-raid with two seperate SATA drives
b) Intel Raid 0 with two SATA drives
c) Promise Raid 0 with two SATA drives
d) Promise Raid 1 with two SATA drives
e) Promise Raid 0+1 with two SATA drives

ATA options:
a) non-raid with two seperate ATA drives
b) Promise Raid 0 with two ATA drives
c) Promise Raid 1 with two ATA drives
d) Promise Raid 0+1 with two ATA drives

Currently running my 2.6Ghz P4 at 248Mhz for 3.25Ghz with no problem.
Running a single 512meg stick of Kingston PC3500 at 2-3-3-7 at a 5:4 ratio -
until my OCZ PC4200 arrives. Should be able to run 1:1 with that stuff!

RAID will work with PATA drives *BUT* there is only one PATA RAID connector,
meaning that they share the same cable.

Best to use SATA for your RAID, but you can also mix SATA with PATA. I'd run
your two WD Raptors on the SATA under RAID 0 for maximum throughput. Put one
Maxtor and CD drive on each IDE port to maximize speed when moving data
between these HDD. Burn to the CD from the HDD that doesn't share it's
cable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope I can achieve the overclocking you
have.

I see the logic behind your suggestion. The drive cage sits about 8" lower
than the CDs in this case so I'll have to bracket the drives and move them
into the two empty 5.25 bays if I go that route.

Do you think putting the ATA drives in a RAID 0 config on the Promise
controller would be better or worse?

Any good HD benchmarking tools I could run some tests with to see what's
actually happening?

Thanks again..
