P2P & SP 2--Conflict

Hi folks,
I installed SP2 about 10 days back and could download mp3 files from
Bearshare--the p2p program I subscribe to, till yesterday. Now I can't
connect to Bearshare. Other web pages and surfing work just fine. Had okayed
dialog box that asked me to unblock bearshare the first day after i clean
installed SP2 and there was no problem downloading mp3 files. I disabled in
built firewall but to no avail. Went to trouble shooting section in bearshare
and followed their step by step instructions, including opening port(6346)
but still can't connect. Have also included bearshare in exceptions. What
additional measures need to be taken to make p2p work. All other programs/web
pages seem to work fine.
The only other issue that needs to be mentioned is that I had installed Ad
aware SE personal just before this problem came up--now I've uninstalled the
program but still no luck. I run spybot,CWS shredder and AVG anti virus
daily--no viruses or spyware on the machine. Running stand alone computer xp
home with sp2.
Can someone help?

This is not clear: you could connect after setting an exception in the
Windows firewall, but that failed after a time? Or, did you disable the
Windows firewall, and then the connection failed?

Hi Q,
I could connect even without the exceptions by just okaying to unblock
BearShare in the dialog box of the Security Center. The firewall was ON. This
was on switching over to SP2 and worked well for over a week.
Now I cannot connect even when the recommended opening of port 6346 is
enabled in the exceptions section of the firewall. I even turned OFF the
firewall in addition to opening the port.
Any suggestion.?
Thanks.
