first load the "setup defaults", then take a look at the RAM/CPU Timings

The latest 1014 BIOS version is the Beta 003,
but you did not mention exactly what you have.

I have 1014 beta 3 bios installed.

My system is a p3 500 w/256 ram

processor: intel 500 mhz
500/512/100/2.0v S1 (E.C.C.2)

serial#: 99300327-0245

spec: 98 SL370

I would test the memory first - download memtest86 and run it overnight.
If it reports errors, try removing one or more DIMMS (you didn't say how
many sticks make up your 256Mb) or swapping the memory. Set the memory
timing to 'By SPD' in the BIOS. If you get memtest errors with known
good memory, the power supply is the next thing to try swapping.

Another strong possibility is video drivers. Get the latest, and post
your video card and driver info if you are still having problems.
