P2B-F requirements for Tualatin upgrade

T

Thomas Bliesener

I want to upgrade my P2B-F rev 1.00 (not 1.00. dot) with a slot-T + 1.4 Tualatin from http://www.strattoncomputer.com/slcoupadkitw.html.

Does this require the same particular PCBA numbers (A0A, A1A, A2A, A33, A43, A53, A0B, A1B, A2B, A34, A44, A54) that are presupposed for an upgrade with a Coppermine? Unfortunately, on my board, I cannot find any sticker with the SN and the PCBA number.

However, I could ascertain that my volt regulator chip is HIP6019BCB providing voltages down to 1.3V. Does this meet the requirements for the planned upgrade?

Many thanks for reassuring or correcting me,

Thomas

I presume you got the info here:

http://homepage.hispeed.ch/rscheidegger/p2b_procupgrade_faq.html

One ingredient of the upgrade is the voltage. This page says your
regulator goes down to 1.3V, which is necessary for a Tualatin.

http://www.intersil.com/products/deviceinfo.asp?pn=HIP6019B

The second ingredient is the clock generator, and I think the
processor you are buying is a 1400/FSB100/256KB cache chip. There
should be a 100MHz setting on the board for this. You will need
to set the AGP divider to 2/3 when using 100MHz or higher FSB.

I used a Slot-T and Tualatin on my P2B-S, after replacing the
regulator with one that goes down to 1.3V, so your upgrade should
work.

Yes, you look through my ways of informing. Actually, I found it in several
postings, who may draw from the same source.

That makes it easer. How did you find out that this one is FSB100?

I'd be happy if the new piece did not bring the AGP into overclocking
troubles. Existing settings are for PIII Katmai 500/FSB100.

Many thanks for your clear and supportive reply.

It's a 1.4 GHz Celeron. BTW, the 1.4 GHz PIII-S alone would cost more
than twice as much as the Slot-T/Celeron combo.

You don't have to change anything then (OK, BIOS 1014 beta 3 will be
needed, but all the jumpers can remain as-is).
Am I right in assuming that you'd prefer to buy from a source within
Germany?

(That's only with the 1.3 GHz Cely though.)

Oh I see, a cumulation like in many FAQs.

This BIOS version is already waiting on a floppy of mine to get flashed ...

Since Strattoncomputers does not ship to Europe, and did not yet agree to
ship to my hotel in the U.S. in April, in the end I might prefer
JES-computer. The difference between the 1.4 and the 1.3 may be negligeable
compared with the difference between a 500 and a 1.x

Thank you for your hints and help, Stephan.
