Owner account status

I maintain my parents laptop. Yesterday I installed the Windows SP2 to their
XP home edition. I thought it had been done a few weeks ago, but I was
wrong. This morning I installed four updates to the SP2 that involved the
net.framework etc.

Here's what I did:

Critical Update for Office XP on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB885884)
Successful Monday, November 22, 2004 Windows Update website
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Successful Monday, November 22,
2004 Windows Update website
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3, English Version Successful
Monday, November 22, 2004 Windows Update website
Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374) Successful Monday, November 22,
2004 Automatic Updates
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Successful Sunday, November 21, 2004 Automatic
Updates

I copied the above from the "Update history" section at Windows update.
They're in reverse order.

After rebooting, I decided to check the status of the Norton Internet
Security 2003. I did a live update and got everything up to date.

Now Norton reports that the intrusion detection portion of the firewall is
turned off. When I attempt to turn it on, I get the following message:
"Failed to save setting. Please verify that your windows account is not
restricted."

Since I didn't check, I don't know if this is the way it was before I
installed SP2, the critical updates for SP2 or the Norton live update.

As with the question a few threads down, no accounts have ever been created
on this machine, other than the owner account created at installation.
Therefore, I should be able to turn on the intrusion dedection with no
problem.

I don't know if this is a Norton issue or a windows issue so I thought I'd
start here first. How do I fix the account so I can turn on the intrusion
detection?

Unfortunately, Norton doesn't support Internet Security 2003 anymore, so
that's why I'm starting here first. Thanks for your help.

Windows SP2 automatically turns on the Windows Firewall. Since you have
a firewall with NIS, go to the Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel
and turn it off. You will probably then want to go to the Security
Center applet and click on "Change how Security Center alerts me" and
uncheck the alerts for the firewall.
