OWA not receiving new mail

I've recently moved from using POP to using Exchange with my desktop outlook client
(2003).

The problem is that I don't seem to be receiving new mail when I login using the web
access client but if I close that and open my desktop client the mail gets received (and
is subsequently available in OWA). OWA isn't a great deal of use if I need to use the
desktop Outlook to get new email - anyone experienced this that can offer a possible fix?
Other users have gone through a similar transition without this problem.

I still have the old POP account settings in Outlook alongside the Exchange account.

Where is your new mail coming from? It sounds to me as if you're still
receiving your mail from a POP3 server (that *isn't* Exchange). If so, when
you start Outlook it will receive your email from the POP3 server and store
the messages in your Exchange mailbox - only at that point will an OWA
session to your Exchange server be able to see the messages, which up to
then were only available on your POP3 server.

Thanks - that does sound like the only reasonable explanation - I'll check it out further.
