Overwrite Outlook 07 When Upgrading to Office 07

D

Dave in Chicago

I previously had Outlook 07. About 18 months after originally installing
Outlook 07, I upgraded my entire Office 03 to 07. I chose standard install
and expected the install to overwrite the original Outlook, providing
whatever fixes and benefitst there might be in the new version and just
generally making sure that the whole install is as integrated as it can be.
According to the install dates shown in the Properties windows, all of my
Office programs were installed on the new install date - except Outlook,
which apparently did not install with the rest of the upgrade and still shows
the original, 18 month old install date. Should I custom install Outlook
only? Any other suggestions.

Office 2007 found Outlook 2007 already installed and left it alone.
Generally, overwriting (upgrading) Outlook with a newer version is something
to avoid, it often creates problems. The recommended way to upgrade Outlook
is to uninstall the old version prior to installing the new one.
Uninstalling Outlook has no effect on any Outlook datafiles or account
settings.

If you already have Outlook 2007 installed there's no reason to
reinstall it from the CD (unless you're fixing a known problem). Any
updates for it will be available online via Office Update (Help | Check
for Updates) but may have already been downloaded/installed for you by
Microsoft Update if your machine is thusly configured.
