Overriding automatic send/receive time interval

P

Pamela Oberg

I run 2 machines using Outlook that connect to my mail server via LAN.
They are both configured identically to check the server every 5
minutes. This morning, apparently my machines locked up my mail
server account, possibly because they requested mail simultaneously.
Here's the question:

If I hit F9 on a machine, does that "forced" Send/Receive reset the
automatic send/receive interval to begin 5 minutes after the F9
function? Or is the forced S/R independent of the auto S/R and doesn't
affect the 5-minute interval?

The mail server support suggested not having both machines connecting
to the server at the same time. If the F9 resets the 5-minute
interval, then that little task will ensure that both machines auto
request at different times.

Pamela

The recommended minimum time should be set for 10 minutes to avoid just such
a problem.

Milly,
Thank you for replying. Actually, setting the interval to
10 minutes, or any interval for that matter, doesn't
entirely eliminate the problem. If both machines retrive
on the same 10 minute interval, then the lock up problem
remains. It seems unlikely that the machines would do
that, but apparently they did in my case.

So, back to my original question. Does the F9 function
reset the auto S/R cycle, which is set at 5 minutes? If
so, then I can set both machines to 5 minutes, then after
1-2 minutes, hit F9 on one machine to restart the 5 minute
interval. A simple solution to my problem, if that's how
the F9 function interacts with ASR.

Regards,
Pamela
