Override Excel's date autoannoyance

When I want to insert the timespan 9-16 in a cell, Excel interprete
this data as a date. No matter how I redefine the cell proporties o
change autocorrect proporties I can't seem to make excel stop thi
quite annoying habit, resulting in either in the date 01-09-2016 or
when changing the cell proporties to "number" - 42614. Do you have
solution?

Hi
either format the cell as 'Text' prio to entering these values or enter
them with a leading apostrophe. e.g.
'9-16

Thanks for the reply. I actually have done that, but I don't think it i
a sustainable solution - can it really be that excel is perdestined t
make this weird interpretation without any possibility of reall
turning it off
