"Overflow" error Input Mask

Access 2000. I'm trying to apply an input mask to a text field of my table
for a phone number. i keep getting an"Overflow" error. I went to microsoft
and renamed a file to .old as suggested but it did not work. Any ideas?

Try creating a new database, and using File... Get External Data... Import to
import everything from this database. Then use Tools... Database Utilities...
Compact and Repair. Post back if that doesn't help...
