over active scroller

Good evening gang!

Most times when I scroll using the wheel on my mouse, the body of the email,
IE page, or form field combo box will go along but reverse as well.

Example: I scroll down a web page reading the content, the page bounces
down and up. I want to scroll all the way up, it bounces up and down and up
and down to the point I finally get off my lazy but and point to the scroll
bar and drag it up to the top.

It did that in my old PC "XP Pro" but is worse on my Vista machine.

The mouse is a usb corded dell laser

Is my mouse wearing out? Am I over scrolling? Are there sensitivity
settings? Basically, I have limited mouse space and like to use the scroller
as much as possible; convenience.

Thanks in advance!

This behavior indictaes that the graphic driver is not able to redraw the
screen fast enough to keep up with the scrolling. Check the manufacturers
website for an updated video card driver.

Thanks a million!

Now, are you talking about drivers from Dell for the mouse to play with my
PC or drivers from my PC to play well with my mouse or both. Sorry if I am
playing on words but you said manufacturers without an apostrophe but ended
with video card drivers which to me means my PC's video card drivers for the
mouse.

Sorry, the display driver, video card drivers, graphic drivers, all mean the
same thing.

It's the drivers for the installed hardware that handles the display
graphics. This problem has nothing to do with the mouse.

The video card handles the 'redrawing' of the screen when you scroll, switch
to another window, or open a new window. If the video card is slow, you will
get effects like you are seeing.

Hello Ronnie,

I hope you are still watching this post.

I went into my device manager and clicked to check for updates. After a
while and while I was doing something, the machine started making all the
crakling noices one does when it is thinking and then the screen went blank.

After an hour now, still nothing. Is it still working to update or do I need
to do something (reboot, etc.)?

It is late here and am going to bed. I am going to leave it on all night
with the monitor off. will check it in the morning to see if it is working.
if not, I will check this post to see if you or someone has posted some
sugestions.

well, i got up and found my PC still froze without graphics. I hit the
master reboot and upon restart, it prompted me to start normal, safemode,
etc. I started and it recovered. The resolutions were reset to the largest
setting on all profiles. I have to reset those to desired setting but
everything else seems to be working for the time being. scroller still jumps
too. I will live with it I guess.

yesterday computers were thinking, today the sky is falling. I'll watch
Steven King's "Maximum Overdrive" to see what happens before running for the
hills. My guess, the commet will pass!
