OUTPUTTING REPORTS IN ACCESS 2003 (or 2007?)

Mike S. S.

I have a report with a specific layout (combination of columnar and tabular)
with a subreport in it and I want to be able to have the users choose this
report from the switchboard and have the report output to Excel AND maintain
the exact formatting and layout as the Access report. HELP!!! Can this be
done? Can someone point me in the direction of an example of how to do this?
(The report SAVE AS or EXPORT TO don't work in terms of choices or
preserving formatting/layout.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Mike, that's not going to happen.

Some formatting/layout will be lost when you export to Excel.
Graphical elements will be lost.
Subreports won't work as expected.
And Access 2007 may not be able to do it at all.

You can export a PDF (Access 2007 with add-in), or SNP (Microsoft Snapshot),
but neither format is user-editable.

If you want to export to Excel, create a query that gives the rows you need,
and export that. To achieve this you may need to use stacked queries
(queries that use other queries as input 'tables'), subqueries (queries that
contain an embedded SELECT), temporary tables (tables that contain data just
for the export), and dynamic queries (where you write the SQL property of
the QueryDef.)
