Output to PAL?

I have all my DV tapes recorded in US. The edited outputs from MM2 are in
DV-AVI(NTSC) format. The DVD's created using Roxio DVD-Maker play fine on
my set-top player here.

I would like to send some of these to my parents in India, which uses the
PAL system. What are my options?

There is no DV-AVI(PAL) option in MM2.

Will I have to depend on the capabilities of the DVD authoring program to
create PAL DVD's?

Will VCD be easier (they don't care about NTSC/PAL, right?)

I looked all over PapaJohn's site bit could not find any info on NTSC->PAL
issues. Is there a way to search that site?

Aloke,

The Setup > Options in MM2 include your choice of PAL versus NTSC. If you
choose PAL, then the saving choices will include DV-AVI (PAL)

Thanks.

So, I can keep MM2 in NTSC most of the time, including capture and editing,
and switch to PAL just before outputting the final DV-AVI file?

Will the file created this way be distorted (because of the different aspect
ratio) or speeded-up (because of the different frame rate)?

PS: Please add a way to search your site..

Do you have information that VCD doesn't care? I am under
the impression that PAL does care so I have been
neglecting to send a VCD because I don't know if it can
play on PAL equipment. Nor do I know if I can
successfully create a PAL VCD since I can't test it. Have
you sent VCD's to your parents before that were created
from NTSC? If so, did they play ok?

Thanks,

Yes, switch just before saving and you'll get the PAL option. The file won't
be distorted; it'll just have the properties of a PAL movie. But it's easy
enough to test it... I don't usually work or save in PAL so maybe there's
something I don't know about it.

On the searching, I've thought about it a bit but I'm not ready to implement
something like that. The site isn't meant to cover the basics of setting up
and using Movie Maker, so a good search feature won't find it. Online
tutorials and books are the best resources for such info.

I'm just getting started with all this DVD/VCD stuff.. I have sent actual
VHS tapes to India before, after converting my movies to PAL on a
multi-system VCR.

I'm not sure that VCD is indifferent to NTSC/PAL settings.

Roxio DVD-Builder has settings for PAL vs NTSC and it also lets me choose
whether I am burning DVD or VCD. So, I'm assuming that if I pick PAL and
VCD, the program will work correctly and produce a good PAL DVD or VCD. I
have no way of verifying this either..

Select the TOOLS\OPTION\ADVANCED menu. Here set the
video format to PAL. Now save your project and among the
OTHER SETTINGS you will find DV-AVI(PAL) option.
