outlook2003 with word 2002

I have outlook 2003 and want to use word 2002 to edit and write my emails. it
will not allow me to do this. is there a way and why would it not be
backwards compatable?
 
No, Word 2002 can't be used to compose e-mail. Microsoft never gave
specific as to why, just that it is done to help prevent compatibility
problems.
