Outlook zipped attachments

I am using Office XP Standard, I just changed from Office 2000. I can not
attach zipped attachments any longer. I used XP last year and just
re-installed on my computer so I know it worked, but now it will not allow me
to attach the file. I do not get an error message, it will just not allow the
attachment.

can't attach or it doesn't display them in the file attachment dialog?

It does not display anything in the file attachment dialog area. First it
says open and I highlight the file, then it says "Insert" when I click on
Insert nothing appears.
