outlook xp wont start in Vista cant find default email folder
offers to use default sys folder

wont work have installed all updates

dont understand statement that office updates dont work in vista

Not sure what your question is. Do you know where your Personal Folders
File is? Can't you open it with Outlook (right-click, open with Outlook)

You can't open a PST that way.

You are right; my apologies to the original poster. (I assumed it would
work like a Word doc opening Word, but my assumption was false.)
