Thanks, I spent hours trying to find an answer, Reformatted the hard drive,
reinstalled everything, and it still didn't work . I just figured I was
doing something wrong.

FYI, I was a big fan of Microsoft since the mid 80s. But it seems like they
have abbandoned the approach of putting out a good product that people will
want and have replaced it with a strategy of making software incompatible
with itself so when a computer dies and you replace it you have to buy
thousands of dollars worth of new software because the new opperating systems
are not backwards compatible.

unfortunately it's not just Microsoft's older software that is not backwards
compatible - it's a problem with many older applications (and a few very new
ones-I was told the new version of QuickBooks doesn't work in vista) when
you upgrade to a new OS. I always plan on spending an extra $500 for new
hardware (scanners etc) and software when I upgrade the OS. If I can't
afford it, I have to choose between waiting until I can or upgrading now but
suffering without certain things. It's especially difficult when the new OS
is radically different, as Vista is, because I might need to replace more
than $500 worth of stuff or do without.

Unless you need specific capabilities available only in Outlook, switching
to Vista's mail and calendar is better - the calendar is very much like the
one in Outlook 2007. I don't know if the other office applications have
issues - I only tested Outlook.

Thanks. This was a case where we were replacing a computer that died. We
could not find a new computer with XP. after shelling out 700 for a computer,
we can't afford to upgrade all of our other software including office pro,
Visio, Norton anti virus etc for our four computers. most packages are only
good for three installations So we would have to buy two copies of each
package.

I know dell still offers xp in the small biz section, although I think the
prices are a bit higher. You don't need to upgrade every computer - although
if you are sharing data between them, it's better to have them all on one of
the last two versions of office.
