Outlook won't open(75% free space:160 gig);1 gig RAM;scanned with.

When I try to open Outlook, the hourglass appears, hangs, and disappears; I
can't open; I had this prob with an older computer; my new computer is less
than 6 months and I haven't had a problem until today.

I have over 120 gigs hd free; 1 gig ram; and I have scanned for viruses and
spyware
 
Might want to bring up the task manager and see if Outlook is in the process
list. (task manager is taskmgr.exe)
 
Appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am not sure what I should be
looking for: there were at least two dozen MS Oulooks with 0 cpu, but some
memory usage. Should I delete or simply reboot?
 
You can highlight one and then select the End Process button at the bottom
of the dialog. What we need to figure out is what 3rd party programs you
have installed that are keeping Outlook resident in memory. Do have any
Fax, PDA, or Outlook addins installed?
 
I just added Norton's WinFax. Could that be it?

Yep. You didn't mention what version of Outlook you have installed, but
Outlook 2003 and WinFax is bad combination in regards to this issue. The
really bad thing is, Symantec doesn't offer a patch or support for WinFax.
I've heard that you can install WinFax w/out the Outlook integration if you
need fax capability, but I don't own WinFax so I can't confirm.
 
Wonders of wonders; while I was deleting the 2 or 3 dozen outlokk.exe
commands, MS outlookopened by itself. Still neeed to know why this happened

I am having a similar problem with Outlook 2003 in tandem with Exchange 2003
(not in cached mode). I can close Outlook, but i notice that the icon in the
task tray remains and i cannot re-open Outlook. If i double click Outlook n
number of times it will not open. I noticed when i get into the task mgr i
see OUTLOOK.exe n number of times. I have to end all of them to re-open
Outlook. I am using Macafee 8.0i, Zone Alarm Pro, and Active sync 3.7.1 on
WinXP Pro SP2. I have disabled Zone Alarm and removed the integrity client
from startup and that hasnt fixed the problem.

Please help.

It may be Activesync.
 
I re-installed active sync, however that did not fix the problem. Any ideas?

I don't think it's an issue with Activesync being installed incorrectly; I
think it's an issue of ActiveSync running at all. If you disable it, does
the problem go away?
Is that the latest version of ActiveSync? I don't use it, so I can't say for
sure - might also want to post in m.p.pocketpc.activesync (& mention that
you already posted in here so nobody just sends you back to the Outlook
groups) to see if anyone else can report a fix.
 
I am also having this problem, I do not have any of the mentioned software
installed on this machine however when I close Outlook the process remains
active and has to be ended through task manager to open a new session. Has
anyone had any luck finding what is causing this?
