outlook will hang for a while when i trying to open an attachment

i m using outlook 2003, i met a problem when i tried to open attachment sent
by customer to me, the outlook will hang for a while before open it. may i
know what is the problem? how to solve it?
 
Where is that attachment located - on a remove IMAP or Exchange Server?
If this is the case, then Outlook will need some time to transfer the
attachment to your local computer. Unfortunately Outlook tends to be
passive (hang) during that time.
 
Typo "remove" below meant "remote".
